MAN 101 – CREATORS BLOG

Monday 13th April 2026:

An early Monday morning start Just outside Newbridge marked the beginning of a new short film titled MAN 101. Written by Ethan & Directed by Ethan & Georgie, the film highlights the current issues around toxic masculinity.

As Director of Photography for MAN 101, I equipped myself with a rough plan of shots, my trusted Sony A7IV, Samyang Cinema Lenses and with the help of my camera assistant Paris, lighting team Josh & Toby and with the extra help of pro cinematographer Nathan, we set out to create a short film to spread the message and show the truth behind toxic masculinity.

Day one went very well. We had the honour of working with Maxwell James, a professional actor from South Wales and student actor Harry. The acting was perfect, the shots were perfect and with very little issues, Day one was a success.

Tuesday 14th April 2026:

Day Two saw us filming in the Newbridge Memo, A memorial hall with a ballroom, Theatre/cinema, library, function rooms & offices.

The crew arrived at around 8:30-9am. We had planned quite a number of scenes and shots. In order to speed up production, We decided to set up a Sony FX3 as a B camera.

During the day, we made our way through the scenes however, we did run into some production issues that considerably affected the schedule. We kept going though, prioritising speed yet maintaining a high standard of quality.

As the day came to a close, it was decided that a third production day was required. Even though we all tried to get the rest of the film finished on the Tuesday, the issues and setbacks taught us that not all days go the way you would want it. There will always be days where unexpected issues arise and even though those issues may affect scheduling & the general production, the one thing that matters is how you deal with the issues, how to solve the problems and adapt to scenarios that may not be part of your vision.

Despite the issues and setbacks, we managed to film as much as we possibly could during the time we had. I must say that even though some crew (including myself) felt very defeated, disappointed at the fact that we couldn’t finish the film, we did the very best we could and (fingers crossed), MAN 101 will be an incredible short film.
